BUILDING WORK IN PROGRESS

The L-shaped room in this period property recently had its ceiling lowered to accommodate a loft conversion above. The brief was to create a bespoke loft bed in a room that would also be used for studying and playing musical instruments. Given the reduced ceiling height, the solution was to build a raised platform which separates the sleeping area from the rest of the room, whilst providing plenty of built-in storage. The design scheme is jungle inspired and features natural textures and a declination of greens. A number of strategies are used to give the illusion of height, including a vertical patterned wallpaper, the introduction of a dado rail to create a two tone effect and readjust the proportions of the long wall leading in the room, and ceiling hung voiles to dress the large bay window. The furniture and finishes are kept light, yet highly functional, and a number of creative solutions ensure the space is fully personalised and fun.
